Hotel Review: Áurea Catedral by Eurostars

A scenic view of the historic Alhambra in Granada, Spain, surrounded by lush greenery and an expansive cityscape.

Where To Stay In Granada?

Granada is a beautiful, but relatively small city. I found it very easy to navigate and largely walkable. In my opinion you can cover all of the highlights plus some extras in about 2 days, so I would focus planning energy on activities and food rather than lodging. My husband Patrick and I visited for 2 days, 1 night in January 2025. We stayed at the Áurea Catedral Hotel by Eurostars and would recommend it after a positive experience. It’s a great value for a 4 star hotel. Below are the details of my review.

Cleanliness

10/10. Spotless.

Location

The location of the Áurea Catedral Hotel is ideal for a quick day or two in Granada. It’s literally steps away from the Granada Cathedral and 2 minutes from the Gran Via 7 – Catedral bus stop. You can also walk to multiple breakfast spots (all <10 minutes) and even The Alhambra (20-30 minutes; uphill there, downhill coming back).

Ambiance & Lobby

The lobby is small, but aesthetic and well kept. Free fruit-infused water is offered to guests, as well as computers where you can book or print tickets. The staff was friendliest I encountered on my entire trip to Spain (Barcelona, Madrid, and Andorra) and spoke impeccable English. They are also very responsive via email. Luggage check was simple and hassle free. One morning, there was a quaint farmer’s market-esque spice shop set up just outside the front doors which was a pleasant surprise.

Room

The room was very clean with a double bed, cabinet area, safe, and desk. While the bed and pillows weren’t particularly comfortable, they were not offensive either. Pretty standard. A yoga mat is provided in the cabinet/closet area for guest use.

Bathroom

In my opinion, the bathroom really shines at Aurea Catedral by Eurostars. It was extremely spacious, especially for a European hotel. My bathroom had a huge shower with great water pressure, as well as a towel warmer that we loved as we were visiting in January. The mirror is lit in a modern, trendy shape. In addition, all amenities were provided, even a toothbrush and comb, which was a nice touch.

Amenities

  1. Gym: The gym is pretty bare bones, but adequate for a light workout with a few cardio machines and a small rack of dumbbells as well as some yoga mats for floor exercises. The dumbbells only went up to about 20-25 lbs, so this is not your stop if you’re looking for a heavy lift. There is also water available for hydration. The gym was completely empty at 8 am on the Wednesday morning in January when I went.
  2. Restaurant: There is a restaurant on site, but my husband and I did not eat there during our stay. Apparently, a buffet breakfast is also available, but it was not included in the cost of our room, so we went elsewhere.
  3. Spa: There is an onsite spa with a plethora of offerings including multiple variations of massages. You can reference the service and price list here. Instead, Patrick and I opted for an Arab bath experience at Hamman al Andalus, a 10 minute walk from the hotel. You can read about our experience here.

Final Thoughts

Áurea Catedral Hotel by Eurostars is a clean and beautiful 4 star mid range hotel in the heart of Granada in the City Center neighborhood. All tourist spots, including The Alhambra are walkable, and it’s near many food options. The rooms are clean, and there is even a small gym, though relatively bare bones. In summary, great value, great location. Definitely worth considering for quick trip.
